trails: shelburne trail, bushwack

conditions: decent parking before the gate on connor brook road (fr 95). the initial mile of trail follows the road which was generally dry and smooth going before turning left into the woods at a make shift sign and cairn. once in the woods the trail is often grown in with hobblebush though the footing is good with some mud along the way. water crossings were fine. near the kenduskeag trail junction we bushwacked roughly east to the summit of howe through mixed woods with a fair amount of ledge walking near the highpoint at times following the route of the old trail over the summit. the best views we found were from a ledgy bump about 25 yards west of the actual highpoint. deer flies and mosquitoes down low and black flies up high if idling when there wasn't a breeze.

equipment: navigational tools of choice.

comments: nice hike. i was pleasantly surprised by the great views and interesting woods heading to howe peak. some pleasant walking along the shelburne trail as well. thanks to jeremy for a great day.
