My friend and I headed up to Galehead Mtn yesterday to check off #41 for him. We took the standard route up Gale River Tr to Garfield Ridge Tr and on to the Frost Tr. We were luckily enough to have the rain stop at 8am, just as we put boots on trail. The new section of the Gale River Tr is very nice and soft underfoot but I do miss the river crossings a little. It always seemed to add a little excitement to the hike. Around 11am the clouds began to break and we had some limited views from Galehead Hut into the Pemi before returning the way we came. There were no bugs on the way up but they were making up for their absence on our way down. This was a nice hike for a cloudy day and we were able to return home for some 4th of July afternoon cookouts.
