Whiteface & Passaconaway - Downes Brook, Rollins, Passaconaway Cutoff, Oliverian, etc

Date of Hike: Saturday, October 13th

Trails: Downes Brook, Kate Sleeper, Rollins, Dicey's Mill, Walden, Square Ledge, Passaconaway Cutoff, Oliverian Brook

Trail Conditions: Downes Brook Trail has numerous water crossings (10 or so). Some were easy, some were tricky with some interesting rock hopping to keep feet dry, these would be difficult and dangerous in high water after heavy rain but they are all low and not dangerous right now just may have a wet foot here and there. There is one small section where the trail is washed out into the brook and it seems as though the trail crosses the brook, it does not, keep the brook to your left and look up to your right and you'll stay on the trail. The Kate Sleeper Trail had a dusting of snow but was fine. Rollins Trail had minimal ice on some rocks near Whiteface's summit. The upper end of the Walden Trail near the summit of Passaconaway is steep and has awful footing in spots. All other trails are in good to great shape with minimal mud. Just watch out for hidden roots below the leaves!

Comments: Perfect fall day in the Whites, peak foliage has passed but still some great colors out in the woods. Fun day hiking with Bob, Geri, Dusty, and Rainbow Bright! Report / Pictures
