How do I put a photo in a new thread?

I have figured out how to attach a photo to a post but cannot figure out how to have the photo show up with the text instead of as an attachment. I know some of you can do it so others should be able to do it too.

Did you try the instructions in the FAQ? If they don't work, I'd like to update them. This question comes up fairly often - maybe it deserves a sticky?

Here's a relevant post describing the process. It is preferred that you host your photos elsewhere and link to them via the tag. One very good way to figure it out is go find a post which has embedded photos and hit the (Quote) button which will show you the codes used.
