The Asqualm trail has five or six blowdowns between the lower and the upper Merrill trails a couple of them were somewhat onerous. After that it is relatively clear.

Beaver Brook from Asqualm to Benton clear and Benton to summit clear.

Carriage Road had one major blowdown between Glencliff and Snapper. Below snapper it was clear.

Hurricane had a few stepovers.

All stream crossings on the entire loop were bridged.

The temperature today stayed around 30* most of the morning. It was about 32 above the tree line, but with the brisk wind on the summit it felt every bit like winter up there and we didn't linger long. Going down the Carriage road it warmed up into the 40s and I had to stop the take off my jacket.

The snow started at the point were the Ravine road splits. It was just a light coating up to the parking area. From that light dusting the snow increased gradually to about 6" on the top of Mt. Jim. That level was maintained to the summit. The open ridge on the Carriage road had some drifts that were knee deep. Once in the trees the snow was fairly light. Heading down Carriage from the Glencliff trail the snow was melting fast. There were numerous bare spots down to snapper. After snapper the road was basically free of snow. Hurricane was snow free.

Asqualm, Lower Carriage and Hurricane were about the only trails we had never been on on Moosilauke so we decided to go for it today. Compared to the other trails it's a long hike but very easy with gentle grades and relatively good footing. The most difficult footing was the section on Beaver Brook and and that was about average for the Whites.

The Lower section of the Carriage road was much smoother than the upper section. The Hurricane trail from Carriage toward Gorge Brook was a very gentle road most of the way. Right towards the end the road suddenly disappeared and you follow a trail to Gorge Brook.

Mileage: 11
Elevation gain: about 2800
