trails: sugarloaf mountain trail

conditions: nash stream road open and in good shape. a couple muddy spots in the warm sun later in the day. i believe it is scheduled to be closed on december 1st. parking for a couple cars on the left at roughly 8.3 miles where trail leaves up a road past a small house/cabin. there is a cohos trail marker at the side of the road. be careful not to block the driveway. there is also plenty of parking just back across the bridge over nash stream on the right. follow the road through a gate and shortly after there is a sign for the sugarloaf mountain trail which bears right and follows the old firewardens road. lower trail was leaf covered and partly frozen with some wet and minor muddy spots. there is a coating of snow in the upper half of the trail where it is in the shade, but no ice. removed a few blowdowns and limbed some others, but some still remain.

equipment: nothing in particular.

comments: beautiful day in the nash stream forest. this was a reconassaince hike of sorts to check out the area and get views of the surrounding peaks from sugarloafs mostly open summit. views were awesome in most directions. the northeast view is now mostly dominated by the local windfarms. a really spectacular summit. well worth the grind up the old firewardens road. great to be out.
