I heard about this from the Ranger involved, I guess they were in the Slide/Cornell Col, a long way from any trailhead. He said they didn't even have enough gear for a day hike. Glad they are ok!

I climbed Slide Mountain in October. Compared to any 4000 footer in NH it was a super easy hike, and my friend and I did it via the longest route. A longish (10 mile) walk in the woods, really. That said, the area itself around Slide is very isolated and open with lots and lots of wilderness before you come to any roads. And unlike many parts of the Whites you don't hear traffic from the roads, so I bet you could feel lost pretty quickly, especially after dark.

I'd better be careful, Carla, or it'll turn into a 'which is harder' thread, but Jackson, Moriah, and another handful seemed like easy strolls in the woods to me. ;)
