Date of Hike: 3/3/13

Trail: Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail

Trail Conditions: Packed powder on the Ammonoosuc Ravine trail with a variety of ski tracks, snowshoe tracks, and bare boots. Wandering up Monroe, there were drifts, rocks, no ice

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes MSR Lightening Ascent with televators entire day. Carried Microspikes and crampons, but didn't use them. Best thing today were my ski goggles. Light was very flat and it was a challenge in the fog to see my previous snowshoe tracks on Monroe.

Comments: No wind in the woods. Hid behind the Lake of the Clouds hut building to get out of a moderate wind. Much more wind on top of Monroe. From the hut I was uncertain of where the mountain was (I know, it's right there). Fortunately the cloud opened for less than a minute and that gave me the confidence to leave the hut and head up. There were no more openings in the cloud the rest of the time I was in the area.
