Pleasantly surprised to have about 3" fresh fluff at the Nancy Pond trailhead in Crawford Notch. Increased to about 6" at the ponds. Very firm underneath and snow bridges still intact. A few old snowshoe postholes from before the return of cold weather, but very firm. Big stream crossings a little tricky, but still ok.

The Nancy bushwhack started along the herd path to the slide. Went up the slide, which was a little tricky with the fresh over a hard pack on that steepness, but a little care got us up. We lost the herd path after entering the woods and ended up taking the path of least resistance through some dog hair patches, which had us going straight up:(. Took us 1 hour 10 min to get to the top from the NW corner of Norcross Pond.

Equipment: We wore snowshoes the whole way. Not absolutely necessary on the trail, but going would have been a little tougher without them. With the length of the trip planned, we needed to conserve our energy. Besides, it's always a joy to break a few inches of snow over a nice firm packed trail with the shoes!

Snowshoes essential for the bushwhack. There's still at least 2 ft of snow in the woods up there and the heel elevators sure were nice to have!
