We parked at the end of Belknap Mountain Road and left from there. We headed first to Whiteface via the Whiteface Piper link. From there we headed back and up Piper then on to Belknap then back over Piper and back to the car.

The trails are in great shape. There was no snow at the trailhead but it started a short ways up the trail and there was snow all the way to Belknap. The snow was in fantastic condition this morning, very solid and it was possible to walk on the crust even off the trail. From the trailhead to the top of Belknap the trails were clear of all obstacles. I wore my old spikes today as there was a mixture of bare rock and snow.

The open ledges of Whiteface and Piper tended to be clear of snow. There was a fair bit of snow between Piper and Belknap and if you hike on a warm day you will posthole, however, today the snow pack was solid and fast.

We met Summerset and son on the side of Belknap and TrailwrightBrat up at the tower. He was up tending to his tower before beginning duty next week.

On the way back Lauky performed some trail magic on the top of Piper. We came on an elderly hiker who was lying on his stomach and who looked very tired. Lauky went up and snuggled next to him, then lifted his head and gave him a kiss. He repeated the action several times and the man seemed to brighten up and he sat up.

There was a stiff breeze today but nothing that blew you around, it just kept you cool. The views were magnificent. It was a fantastic day to be out.
