Ahh.. that would do it. Never heard of that one before. Just skimmed Mats trip report from '07 and that is impressive.
 
Some of Mats later attempts are just as impressive despite not finishing. He had the unfortunate bad luck to hit the hottest muggiest weather of the season on his later attempts.

Correction: Tim has the fastest known time for doing the NH 48; he did not do the direttissima, however.

Also, the original direttissima-doer, Henry Folsom, did not do the hike in one continuous, swell foop but, rather, would do a section, go home, then pick up where he'd left off. Repeat

If you want to attempt Mats' record you also have to lick the sharp edge of an open sardine can. Go hardcore or go home.

swamp, i'm not attempting it and i don't think the OP over there is going for a record.. just wanting to do it. i'd never heard of that before.
