Sandwich Dome & Jennings Peak via Sandwich & Drakes Brook Trails - Sunday 5/19/2013
Sunday 5/19/2013
Trail Conditions: Took Sandwich Mountain Trail up and Drakes Brook Trail down. Both trails generally clear with a few blow-downs. Most of the uncleared blow downs were on the leg from Jennings Peak to Sandwich Dome. A small section of snow/ice monorail on the last section up to the Dome, but found that it was mostly covered wtih spruce boughs or otherwise avoidable.
Special Equipment Required: Maybe bring hiking poles for the short ice/snow section on way up Sandwich Dome. We carried hiking poles but chose did not to deploy.
Comments: A great spring day in the mountains. Was partly sunny for most of the morning and early afternoon when clouds started to really filter in. But felt nary a sprinkle; only saw light rain on the drive home. There were very few bugs. And oddly, it was a very quiet day on this popular mountain, as our group of 3 only saw perhaps just over a dozen other souls during the whole day.
