Wonlancet, Hibbard, Nanamocomuck, & Square Ledge via... (see post for trails) - 6/21
Date of Hike: June 21, 2013
Trails: Mast Road, Wonalancet Range Trail, Walden Trail, and Square Ledge Trail
Trail Conditions: This applies to All Trails Listed: mostly dry, clear, and relatively unobstructed with traces of drying mud. That said, the parts of Square Ledge Trail east of Square Ledge and along the unnamed waterways were fairly grown-in in several places and in need of trimming. Additionally there were fairly muddy patches in these areas as well as several partially cleared easy-over and easy-under blowdowns.
Special Equipment Used: None.
Comments: Hiked this one as part of a Meetup group being led by Bill Robichaud. We had intended to do Paugus as well but a member of our party was feeling less than optimal so we cut it short. It was still a nine-plus mile day with over 4000 feet of gain so it was a good one all the same. The views on these 52WAV peaks (Hibbard and Square Ledge), however, could have been better -- but what we did get was still beautiful offering new perspectives of Whiteface and Passaconaway. We had a little treat at the parking area where we ran into Ed Hawkins prepping a tailgate reception for Grid finisher #38 Mike Innis (and his hiking partner). To prepare for this celebration we helped Ed test a couple of ice-cold PBRs (thanks Ed). By the time we downed our second brew Mike turned the corner and we were able to shake his hand and offer our congratulations on a job well done. We couldn't stick around for long, though; the Yankee Smokehouse was calling.
