ADK 46er trail work weekend: Aug. 23-25, plus open rock ledges peak: WYMAN (3290')

The ADK 46-R "blue tarp" trail work party weekend was set up at Sharp Bridge Campground, a break from the usual Putnam Pond offering that the group works at this time each summer. The Trail masters: Sam, Pete, Dave and Joe had their sights set to work along the 5.2 mi. trail that leaves the campground in a SSE direction. After an introductory Friday night social gathering, the workers set out Saturday to replace (3) rotted log bridges, or do extensive side cutting of thick brush growth along some trail sections. Darwin has long been the lead DEC ranger who sets up the work crew assignments. He's recently retired and 'passed the torch'. He was presented a special cake after the Saturday evening BBQ festival of chicken, corn, potatoes, chili and of course ... Pete's special home brews. A wonderful time was had by all. Thanks 46ers!

SonnyM and I arrived a day early (Thursday evening), so we could do a hike / bushwhack of a nearby 3000 footer on Friday, before the trail work weekend. We used the blow down infested West Mill Brook trail to the 3-way stream junction. It's a open woods bushwhack to the beaver bog, half way to the col between Wyman and Bear Mtns. Beyond the bog, we contoured to the left of the stream to avoid blow downs. There's at least (6) large open rock viewing areas on a (imaginary) bearing line between the summits of Wyman and Bear Mtns (click on 'Satellite' and zoom in). Wyman is a GEM in the rough!

The bump labeled on the topo map as 809 meters is awesome. It has been dubbed the "igloo". You were probably there. Lots of open rock on many of the nearby lower summits. Great place.
