Porter and Cascade from Marcy Field

Planning to do this hike soon and was wondering if anyone has taken this route recently or seen cars at the trailhead. I haven't seen any posts this winter for this route (unbroken ) and I'm curious on what to expect for trail conditions. Thanks

I haven't seen any cars there this winter. I don't think that approach gets much use so plan on breaking trail. Last winter we rented a house near the Garden and caught the trail from there that goes to Little Porter and Porter. We broke trail the entire way.

Even in the Summer, almost everyone goes to Porter via Cascade, because it is SO much shorter and involves much less climbing. I would expect that in the Winter the Cascade route gets an even larger share of the traffic.

The tradeoff is that the other two routes are seldom traveled and very pretty.

(Don't underestimate the grind up from the airport. It's long and steady, and if you have to break trail, you'll want an early start and a good sized crew.)
