Trail Conditions: We got lucky. Prior to our arrival at the end of Gale River Rd, a snow machine had gone to the end of the road and turned around leaving a nice track for us to walk on. We broke out Mt Garfield Trail; it was topped with about 7-8" of fluffy new powder -- not too, too tiring. Crossings are all bridged and very solid. There are three or four blowdowns but all are easy to pass by/under/over. The short section of Garfield Ridge Trail that we hiked making for the summit was in great shape. Even on unconsolidated powder we made good upward progress in our snowshoes. Still a few rocks poking up here and there on the trails, and the summit still offered some bare rock by the playpen.

Special Equipment Used: We brought crampons but never needed them. We did use snowshoes from end to end; they were perfect for the job at hand. Trekking poles were good for balance.

Comments: Hiked this one as lead with Alex Nedzel for the AMC NH Chapter. We had a terrific hike on an exceptionally pretty albeit nippy day.
