Trails: Metacomet-Monadnock/New England Trail

Trail Conditions: It had rained the day and night before so the trail was wet. This made for slippery rocks. On our return trip back to the car the trail was drying out nicely. Other than that the trail is in great condition. There was no mud in the usual spots. There are blowdowns along the way, but most of them have been there for a while and a few that are relatively new. All are easy to step over. There are few sections of the trail where the vegetation could be cut back.

Special Equipment Used: Trekking poles are always useful, but saw many people without them. The bugs were around, but not much of a problem if you kept moving. There was also a nice breeze most of the day. Bugs can be vicious on this trail.

Comments: Our hike was from the Notch Visitors Center on Rte 116 to the Summit House and back. It was cloudy when we started our hike so views were limited, but as the day went on we had great views of Northampton, Hadley, Amherst and beyond. This was my father's day hike with my son Nicholas.
