The Horn

Last Thursday I soloed The Horn - left the Mill Brook Road and headed up the Unknown Pond Trail and thence via the Kilkenny Ridge Trail to the summit spur. The day was absolutely fantastic and the views from the summit were great. The lower part of the Unknown Pond Trail was a mix of rocks, roots and mud (as usual) but there were a couple of short detours so the worst of the muddy areas were easily circumnavigated. On my way down from Unknown Pond I heard a noise to my left and suddenly a cow moose bounded onto the trail about 20 meters away from me - I had my camera in my pocket but evidently she wasn't in the mood to pose for a photo. A great day for a hike! I'm planning to solo South Weeks tomorrow via the Starr King and Kilkenny Ridge Trails - if anyone has any trail reports or suggestions, I would be most appreciative.
