If the weather for Sunday allows for it, I'm going to hike Mount Ellen in Vermont for #53 on the NE67 list. My only problem is that I'm torn as to which route to take. A part of me wants to hike from Appalachian Gap due to the higher starting elevation (I know about the rather high amount of reverse gain) and that I can bag Gen. Stark Mountain along the way. On the other hand, another part of me wants to take the Jerusalem Trail from Jim Dwire Rd. because it's shorter than the LT from VT 17 by two miles, and it seems more likely to be broken out.

DISCLAIMER: I'm willing to break trail, as long as it's not through 1-2 feet of unpacked powder.

Given the current snow conditions in the north-central GMNF, which route would you recommend: the LT from VT 17, or the Jerusalem Trail from Jim Dwire Rd? I hiked Abraham two days ago, so don't need to cross the ridge (at least not now).

Thanks in advance!
