Pierce & Eisenhower (Dry River, Mount Clinton, W-Cliff, Crawford Path, Eisenhower Tr)

Date of Hike: Saturday, September 5th

Trails: Dry River, Mount Clinton, W-Cliff, Crawford Path, Eisenhower Trails

Trail Conditions: The Dry River Trail is mostly easy to follow, it is eroded and muddy in spots and has a few re-routes up the banks where the trail was washed away in 2011. Mount Clinton Trail crosses the Dry River, hugs the bank for a few hundred feet then dips into the woods, here it is overgrown and the path isn't too obvious but there is flagging in the woods. The trail stays to the left of a brook for over a half mile, there is a big Birch blowdown on a side hill where the trail is hard to spot on the other side of it, the trail is above the downed tree, not below it. After this the trail is narrow but it's ok to follow the corridor as you ascend up and over seven water crossings along the way. Each of the crossings have flagging on one or both sides. *If descending the Mount Clinton Trail, after one of the first crossings the trail almost immediately comes to a muddy overgrown grassy area where it appears the trail heads straight through it to the back end of this mud bog, it doesn't, the trail is just to the right of this. Also, towards the bottom of the trail, less than a mile to go from the end of the trail, along a side hill above the brook, keep an eye out for a right turn down to the bank, it may look like the trail continues straight ahead but it bangs a right and heads down and soon crosses the brook. All other trails in good shape, Mount Eisenhower Trail is narrow through the first .25 miles but very easy to follow.

Comments: Love hiking along some of the lesser traveled trails. If you want to test out your trail finding skills head to the Mount Clinton Trail before they go in and clean it up! Thanks Matt for a fun hike in the Dry River Widlerness :) Report / Pictures
