Weds. 7 Oct on LT/AT - entire trail in excellent condition due to recent lack of rain, first leg to Stratton summit about 2 hrs (some confusion re actual distance, trailhead sign says 3.4 mi while 2010 GMC map indicates 3.8 mi), conditions at summit quite different from start, much colder and saturated wind-driven clouds tearing past the fire tower and obscuring all views. Easy descent to Stratton Pond, not a soul around and nice foliage, though late this year and not quite peak. Last leg 3.7 mi back to Stratton-Arlington Road over long stretches of bog bridges (not recommended in summer - mosquitos!), final easy walk of 0.9 mi back to trailhead, total trip 11.7 mi, 6:10 hrs. Postscript: after showers/rain Friday 9 Oct conditions quite a bit softer and muddier
