I was very excited to get up to the Whites last month with my wife and enjoy some winter hiking (however mild the conditions are this year.) We did Mt. Pierce the first day and South Moat the second. Conditions couldn't have been more different. Pierce was an easy hike but gave us a taste of frigid winter conditions at the top. South Moat was difficult going for us being mostly ice but perfect weather at the summit. Great trip and a good learning experience.
