Dear All and Sundry,

I ruptured the plantar fascia in my right foot. I did it walking up a slight incline at work. No obvious warnings.

Dr. says "yeah, it happens".The ortho seems rather casual about it which is reassuring. Apparently the "cure" for chronic P Fasciatis is to cut the thing anyways.

However, has anyone done this? How was the recovery? What are my prospects for teleskiing, xcd, and hiking?

thanks, Spencer

It is a comon 'injury' particularly for young people whose muscles outgrow the fascia and are constricted by it. It also occurs among athletes for the same reson. It also occurs at the Achilles tendon. It requires day surgery and the problem is generally solved immediately; after that it depends on quickly you heal. As far as I know there are no side effects. Once taken care of and the cuts healed you will be able to resume all your activities. This is why your ortho seemed 'casual' about it.

Good luck, but don't worry.

Doug
