Pepper, the first canine grid finisher, the first canine redliner is now the first canine calendar day finisher. Here is part of what John Sobetzer wrote to me:

One of the fun things about doing the Calendar Day with Pepper, was
that roughly a year ago I looked at our list of dates, astonished that
we had so many still to do given all the 4Ks we had hiked. Then I
noticed over 90% of them were weekdays, and most were May through
October. I figured it would be years before we'd finish, or we could
try to do the remaining 50+ in one year by hiking a lot after or
before work. We had never done that, but the idea suddenly appealed
to me. I never asked Pepper directly, but he was always ready to go.

Well, it turned out to be great fun as a joint endeavor with a set
target instead of an almost random completion here and there.. We
hiked in the cool of evening in July, after thunderstorms in August,
in silent dark nights with bright lights below in October; we met up
several times with Jeremy and saw beautiful sunsets, we hiked before
work in winter and in clouds and drizzle. We hiked Tecumseh a lot, it
being the closest peak to where we live, with a good trail and ski
slopes to descend on in the warm months. It became an old friend.

The best part, as always, is I got to hike even more with my best
buddy Pepper. The individual hikes had largely become inseparably
intertwined into my memory, but each time we would go out it would be
just be Pepper and me and the mountain we were on.

Our hiking dogs are awesome companions, as you know Ed. I never did
anything to merit Pepper's friendship or that of his predecessor
schnauzers Shadow and Shorty. I hope I've been fully appreciative of
it and equally generous to them in return. May they be forever young.

John
