Trail Maintenance Monies Heading to the White Mountains

    Always good news.

The White Mountains are noted third from the bottom of the list.

That is good news. It will be interesting to see just how much of that "over $300 million" the White Mountains trail system will see, and whether or not that money can bring all under-maintained trails and infrastructure in the system up to the Forest Service standards that allow them to be "accessed and safely enjoyed."

The congressional act from 2016, referenced in the press release, mentions a Forest Service funding backlog of about half a billion dollars, including $314 million for trails.

Looks like the AMC, MATC, CTA, RMC, and whatever other partner, are going to get some grant monies.

Back in the mid 80s with summers off from my public school teaching, I used to bid on trail work contracts through the USFS, Laconia. I wonder if that will return.

There’s the bait. What’s the switch?

Here’s their horrible NPS funding proposal:

This will likely be offset by a decrease in base funding to the WMNF unfortunately. The latest Trump budget calls for massive funding cuts to agencies that manage federal public lands.
