On Sunday July 29nd my girlfriend Maure, whose trail name is now Meadowsweet, and I climbed Hale by the Hale Brook Trail. The weather was great, warm but not humid. Neither of us needed bug spray the whole hike (or, indeed the whole weekend).

This was Meadowsweet's first 4000 footer. It was my third time on Hale, but the first time outside of winter.

Hale Brook Trail is short but steep. We had plenty of time, so we took it slow. There were a lot of other hikers on the trail. At the summit I was only able to find a little compass weirdness. Most people were also going up and down HBT, but there was a group of three on a two day backpack over the Twins, Bonds, Zealand, and Hale. They were relieved to see that the start of Fire Warden's Trail was easy to find.

There's no view on the summit, but we could see the Willey Range and the Presidentials on the way down.

Hale was number 57 (out of 115) in my project to repeat the NE111 in my 60s.

Here are the pictures.

"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."
