Hoping a few of you might have some pics of the methods used to protect alpine areas and sensitive vegetation, etc. that you could share with me for a friend of mine in the conservation field. Below is his email to me describing his needs.

"For a work project, I'm looking to compile a hearty collection of images
that showcase the use of string utilized atop New England & Adirondack
peaks to delineate trails and keep hikers on the trail route, and off of
the sensitive vegetation, primarily in the alpine zones. Because photos
of string on summits may not make for the visually spectacular image, I
don't have any myself and suspect that most hikers, like me, tend to
purposely exclude the string when taking photos. I've found just a
couple images online, but need more images as examples to showcase the
use of the string delineating the trail. For the purpose of this work
project, I'm seeking about a dozen examples, and hoping some VFTT
members may have some in their personal photo archives they may be
willing to share. Their use is non-commerical, an for a non-profit land
conservancy. Bonus points for images that include the string AND the
alpine zone/sensitive vegetation/stay on trail sign in the same image. I
have plenty of images of just the signs, but when they include the
string the concept is even better illustrated. But most of all, images
of the trail lined with string through alpine zones are needed the most.
I do not need high resolution. Below is one of the few, good examples I
found online courtesy the GMC."

Thanks for any help!

This is on Welch Mountain. I like this look a lot better than string. I haven't studied the issue at all, but my first reaction is a thumbs down on the string.

Baxter State Park also uses string on the Hunt Trail and Abol trail up on the plateau.

Yup

Some scaled down photos I took late last year.
