I unpacked my snowshoes from a recent move. The snowshoes were bound together by many layers movers wrap--enough to keep the sharp cleats from gauging anything. This movers wrap is just a 5-inch section of Saran Wrap on a roll.
I didn't take the Saran Wrap off until I was well up on the trail. But then it occurred to me what a nice useful material this could be for an emergency. If you twist it and makes a strong cord. If you're really desperate I suppose you could use it as a dry fire starter. You might be able to use it to improvise a splint. And its very light. I suppose you wrap it on a pole just like an emergency supply of duct tape.
As an aside, its real useful for long kayak treks--you can make an emergency hatch if you lose one as well as seal a hole in your kayak.
And its great to protect shift and brake levers if you are travelling in a heavy rainstorm.
