No, It's been years since I've been. This would be the shortest if I remember correctly: Follow the yellow marked Phoenicia East Branch Trail southwest 0.7 miles to its juncture with the red-marked Burroughs Range Trail. Turn left, heading east 2.0 miles to the summit rock.

Tom, I am correct that on this trip, the C+O trail does junction with the Burroughs Range Trail. I did see a trail sign didn't I?

Yes you are correct, but the shortest approach is from Slide Mountain Road (Ct. Rt. 47).
