WMUR has a report on the vandalism along the Kanc. Shotgun blasts at trailhead signs, scenic photo spots, and outhouses. Someone took a chainsaw and cut large chunks out of one of the large WMNF signs one on end. The damage has been occurring in the last few weeks.

They said during the WMUR report that the Forest Service planned to have most everything repaired in time for the upcoming (fair weather) hiking season. The perpetrator will need to be caught first. I'm sure the staff feel like being on a hamster wheel with this stuff.

Assuming late night fun with guns and chainsaws. Do trail cams work in the dark without light allowing the user to know they are on candid camera?

And the game cam needs to be cellular so that it sends a pic before the perp takes it. Assuming there is coverage.

Trail cams can be hidden, they can also monitor the parking area so vehicles coming and going can be captured. A more primitive form of camera was used to catch a person who broke into vehicles at trailheads all over the ADK High Peaks. His garage looked like a warehouse of stolen goods.

Not particularly well if you know where to look. They don't have much of a coverage distance. That is why cellular is best to the extent there is coverage.

Interesting all the damage has been on the eastern flank of the Whites. Definitely would lead one to believe the perps are definitely local. Kind of looks like it might not be just one individual but maybe a group or array of characters. These kinds of things much of the time can be generated through peer pressure, challenges and one trying to up the ante within a group which can lead to multiple incidents like we are seeing. Unlike car break ins where there is a potential money or material gain this is just blatant vandalism. Stupid crimes by stupid people.
