Been reading about RECCO rescue technology and selling lots of RECCO reflective gear where I work.

It seems popular in Europe and a potential alternative to traditional Avi transcievers.

A handheld RECCO transmitter can be deployed on a person or a more powerful transmitter can be used in a helo, which seems like it might be particularly effective for large scale SAR.

Does anyone know if our local SAR groups are using RECCO devices as part of their toolkit?

Recco is best used as a body recovery tool, allowing ski areas to reopen the terrain after an accident. By the time you get an helo to an accident scene you're in recovery mode.

100 meters by helo seems pretty close, the link does show products that have it and it's climbing and a few brands of high-end clothing. More ski boots have it than hiking boots a nd the only hiking boots are a pair of Asolo's insulated boots. It would seem the technology is in its infancy. As more adopt and cost come down as is usually the case in tech, it may be more readily adopted.
