I believe I paid $10 in 1970.
REI was a much different customer experience from the company back then. The frequent catalogs had pages and pages of useful technical information along with gear for sale and how to use it. The board members all wrote interesting stories of their adventures in each edition. Not much in the way of froo-froo, just good useful outdoor gear that everyone wanted to buy.
