Interesting the name for hiking all the WMG is now just the "trails" list, I guess the prior term selected to replace the original term didnt stick?

IMO no need in bringing up that topic as it was discussed thoroughly here before. Excellent accomplishments everyone. Happy New Year!

Actually, the substitute word for "r*******g" was not extensively discussed, the extensive discussion was the use of "r*******g". Tracing was the term that was supposed to replace it, yet the word tracing does not appear on the website except in the actual link to the page (which has tracing in it). So am I to presume that "tracing" has become an action verb for the act of working the WMG list? Or has the term tracing gone by the wayside?

When I first joined Views, the competitive hikers had this thing where they sought to see who could hike the 48 the fastest into the new year. I don't know if it was true or not, but I was told they had support crews who would pick them up at trailheads and drive them to the next one. The speed with which they got through the 48 was stunning, given how short the days were.

On the other hand, Grid hiking was something I had heard of, but less than a handful of folks had actually done it at that point, and it was just something one did over a decade or two.

Now, the race to be the first to complete the 48 in a new year is something I no longer hear about (which isn't to say someone isn't doing it), but speed-Gridding is a thing. People take their vacations to polish off the month, and they structure their lives around it. And even still, not a lot of people have completed the Grid, all things considered.

If you listen to podcasts you can hear him to talk to Will about it on “from the backcountry”
