    Baxter conditions--snowy!

Addording to this article http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/ne...xterpark.shtml in the Maine Sunday Telegram, anyone who's planning to do any hiking in Baxter within the next few weeks should check ahead for conditions. At this point the only trail open to the Katahdin summit is the Abol slide.

Take long walks in stormy weather or through deep snows in the fields and woods, if you would keep your spirits up. Deal with brute nature. Be cold and hungry and weary. - H. D. Thoreau

    Mad Townie,

You ruined my last few days

Sunday evening I was all packed up to head to the Park for a few days. Since I couldn't get in touch with the park on Sunday, I figured I'd show up at HQ at 8am and just make some "reservtions" for Russell and Davis.

I read your post Sunday night and thought better of it. So I opted for a couple of days bushwhacking in southern ME. I never did call the park to find out just how bad it is. I was looking forward to the first K trip of the season...
