Couldn't mistake me for a bigfoot -- but I've skied in the Great Gulf, even in "summer" ... in less clothing than you describe, though.

Awesome story about the Great Gulf! Like others have already said, I now would really like to hike there. Thanks for sharing.

Tramper Al LNT

Tramper Al learned his lesson from the recent LNT thread. If it isn't yours, leave it there. Wonder what was in D.B. Cooper's bag?
After the Deep Throat revelation this week, one writer said Cooper is one of America's three biggest remaining mysteries. Jimmy Hoffa was another. I think the American League strike zone is the other.
I'm reading posts here that say Rogers' Rangers may have left treasure in the Great Gulf. When I read this story years ago, I thought the northwest side of Jefferson was the presumed location of the gold church artifacts taken from Canada.

I thought that a few years ago a lot of paper money was found floating down a tributary on the Washington side to the Coumbia River and that the authorities that it might have been DB's?

I read the above story of footsteps when hiking. Have you read these same reports from others and what do you think? Click & read links below...anyone who suggests this is seen as a nut, but read in these links and you will see that many, many people have had your experience, but don't say anything because people label them as a nutcase....

let me know what you think

For light reading see New England's Mountain Madness by Robert Ellis Cahill. This has the story of the gold on Camel's Hump and various stories of old Indian myths, the Willey disaster of 1826. Cahill also wrote New England's Ancient Mysteries. This has stories of Knight's Templar, New England's Stonehenge and other stoneges around New England.

That is weird! I live in the area, Last summer my daughter and neice were walking down the trail to the water fall (same location) and came upon a huge scat pile. Just before the swamp they heard that groul at about 30 yards in front of them. They froze and backed away and headed back to the car. Nothing they had ever heard before. To this day they swear it was HIM!

I've been away a bit, but to clarify, that was NOT my story at the head of this post.

For Seetguy5150, here's a link from Bigfoot Forums about some folks who were out searching for BF in Whitehall, NY:

http://www.bigfootforums.com/index.php?showtopic=10718

There are several more reports on BFRO of BF sightings in the NE. There are 2 in Harrimaqn State Park at the NY/NJ border only 30 miles from NYC. The comment about sightings by thru-hikers / ADKs / Saranac Lake was interesting. Has anyone actually heard about BF sightings in those places?? Anyone??

Here's a website that compares alleged BF recordings to those of the Barred Owl. Some say they are similar, others think not. I recommend dimming the lights, turning up the volume, and having pleanty of butt wipe ready. Anyone heard anything like this??

Rogers Rangers treasure

was placed in a "cave" on the NW slopes of Mt. Jefferson, supposedly, and included a silver statue of the Madonna. Maybe it's tucked into one of the castles...

Somehow, I though that Rogers' Rangers made their way North thru NY state. If so, how did they get to the Whites - substantially to the east??

A special on Discovery Channel (?), while mentioning RR were in the Whites, further specified that they were West of the Green Mts (therefor NY). A clarification is needed.

On their return trip from Quebec they were being chased by Indians (after looting and pillaging a village). The Rangers split up and took different routes back attempting to avoid their pursuers. Some came down along the Conn. River, others came South through Franconia Notch. At least one group was sent East along the Israel River towards the Northern Presidentials. Some of these groups never returned.

I started reading the new Rogers' Rangers book "White Devil" yesterday. Has anyone else read it yet? Does it discuss the group that split of and descended from Canada East of the Conn. River?
