Southern NH newspapers are running lots of articles this week on eastern equine encephalitis after a second suspected case in So. NH and reminding people to take preventive measures. This is hardly an epidemic, but I did notice lots of mosquitoes on three hikes up here last week. No deer flies, black flies, or no-see-ums, just skeeters. They're out for blood again. September frosts will take care of that. Heh-heh.

We have had EEE in CT for a few years now. A human case or two pops up every not and then. The big effect can be seen in bird populations. There are some Audubon CBC circles in southern NH, also there may be other bird census taken through out the year ie; summer bird counts and the Big Sit. The numbers down in CT have shown a dip in the blue jay and crow populations. This year I think they are back to normal.
