Of interest to climbers, this is the first public lands bill that actually codifies climbing, and the associated fixed anchors, as a legitimate wilderness activity. This is a big step.

I think the bigger barrier to passage will not be the orange one, but the green ones in the house. You would think this would be a slam dunk there, but the folks in the house, as Jethro Tull sings, are "busy with their money games, their women and their guns" right now...

From the article, "The bill is expected to sail through the House after the Presidents’ Day recess, and the White House has signaled support."
 
"The bill, which the Congressional Budget Office projects would save taxpayers $9 million, enjoys broad support in the House. The lower chamber is poised to take it up after the mid-February recess, and White House officials have indicated privately that the president will sign it."
Note that the sentence respectfully refers to "the president". It did not say that the program was initiated but left unfinished by "the black one".

The LWCF has been a power house in funding projects for years and when it lapsed a lot of conservation organizations were real disappointed. Note that it just sets a target for spending but does not authorize any specific amount so year to year funding requires another vote associated with appropriations.
