I'm hiking somewhere tomorrow in the Whites with my dog, Shay aka the Boy Wonder. The forecast is for almost 40 degrees in Crawford Notch. Pretty easy winter for hiking in my book.

When snowshoeing today and breaking trail the crust is not really formed and the snow is pretty dense making for more work than I expected. Of course its early February, yet the snow pack is definitely way below normal.

Here in Northeast CT I haven't even used my snow shovel yet. No ice melt. Nothing. I don't even think I scraped my windshield more than 2-3 times. I can count on one hand the days it even seemed cold. Winters have been mild of late but this is crazy. Has me thinking of Spring and lining up backpacking trips already. Regret buying new snow shoes this year.....

Hiking along CT's shoreline in shorts and a T-Shirt today and plenty of people sitting on the beach. The water is still under forty degrees.

The annual sled dog races in Laconia have been canceled due to the lack of snow. This is too bad, it's a great event and sure is beneficial to the local towns. This would have been the 96th year I believe, it will be interesting to see what happens next year. On another note, I saw a turkey vulture along the rail trail in my hometown this morning, it is quite early for them to be back up North.

Hey we got six inches of snow in southern Rhode Island last night!

Now it's raining and turning to slush. 😞

About the same here in NE CT. Had to shovel for the first time this year. Still snowing but it's not accumulating on pavement at least.

The snow is starting to build up again up in Gorham. Not big storms but they are adding up.
The last week and a half of storms is definitely adding up. Another system Thursday and possibly a big one Saturday. The laminated snowpack is something to keep an eye on as the avy danger is only going to get worse. Not to mention hang fire alone. Winter is not over until it is over.
