    Designated Campsites near MacNaughton

Does anyone know if there is a designated tent site anywhere near the Wallface Ponds base of MacNaughton? Perhaps a small clearing in a legal area? Thanks for any help.

    NiMH Battery Question

"My question - without making this a major project - is it worth paying about double for the Staples selection, or just get the cheaper Kodaks at Walmart?" I have a set of the Kodak batteries from Walmart that you mentioned and they work very well. Much longer life than my older Evereadys. A...

    Blast Furnace at Upper Works

The construction activity at the furnace won't hinder access to the trailheads. You might want to read the post here about road closures this week however.

    Best Camping in Vermont

One of my favorites is Jamaica, near Rawsonville. Many of the sites are right on the river and the town is true Vermont. They used to have a naturalist on staff with lots of activities for the kids. Another good one is Coolidge. Some of the sites have spectacular views. Good location, near...

    Johns Brook Camping

There is a designated campsite area about 200 yds. past the JBL. Take a bear cannister or leave your food in the lodge. There aren't many good "hanging" trees and the bears there are very good at getting food bags. There is water available at the lodge so you could leave your filter home...

    Grounded

It will leak like a sieve. The uncoated nylon is designed to rapidly pass moisture from the tent and out under the fly. You will be protected from insects, but not from any falling rain.

    Bear activity near JBL

Last August we camped at the designated area just above the JBL. Our food was safely stored in a cannister. We ate well. We didn't sleep well however, as the bears made repeated sweeps of the area in search of food all night long. At one point a bear had its nose against the tent, inches...

    Rayon as a "performance" fabric?

I picked up a T-shirt the other day at Target that is 85% Rayon and 15% polyester. It feels a lot like microfiber and was about $6.50. My question is whether rayon acts like polyester when wet or would it tend to absorb water like cotton? Would the shirt be good for hiking etc.?

    Favorite, Least Favorite Trails

I would be interested in hearing about favorite sections of trails in the ADKs. Not necessarily the most spectacular, but perhaps the most satisfying or enjoyable walks. In the interest of balance you could also include your least favorite. From my somewhat limited experience here are mine...
