    Important traildoggie news

Thanks Ed.That was definitely worth sharing twice. Sheep doesn't eat any of those brands but I find it disturbing to find that so many so called "high end" brands of food have these issues.

Missing Dog Alert (8/27), Waterville Valley, Drakes Brook Trail - Found

I've heard stories of owners leaving a bad, blanket or anything that smells like the owner in areas where the dog has been seen. The dogs are supposed to be drawn towards that item and are often found there. I'm not sure how well this works but it's probably worth a try.

Post- Irene trail work on the Osseo/ Mt Flume / Lincoln Woods

I guess that one is off my red line list now! Thanks for the updates. I was just out there hiking Owl's Head 2 weeks ago and it's amazing to think about how much change has occurred so quickly.

The Baldpates - Maine - West and East Peaks 8/24/11

Thanks for posting and loved the photos. I did half of the Grafton Loop on Memorial Day weekend this year but it was damp and rainy so the views were nowhere near as beautiful. I also destroyed my camera in a stream crossing incident on day one so I have no photos of the Baldpates so it's nice...

AT flooding: What do thru-hikers do ?

Actually there is one fixed rule. No matter what a thru-hiker does in a situation like this, he or she will be flamed relentlessly on whiteblaze.net for cheating in some way!

Field and Willey in a Minute and a Half

I loved this video but I think the video on Max playing Twister was even better. Thanks for sharing all of this!

25 Miles in the Dry River Wilderness

Great hike Petch! I love that area. The Davis Path between Isolation Boott Spur is one of my favorite places in the Whites. As for dog water, I hiked the Davis Path from 302 to Isolation a couple summers ago and water was never a problem. Sheep is pretty easy as far as water goes as he has no...

Kids and Happy Chaos on Moriah and the Carters. July 30-31, 2011.

Thankfully, it is Bill doing the reading today and not Sheep. He'd be horribly offended. :)

    Lost Dog

Good news. I just talked to Linda and she found him today. I saw him right around the hut at 1:30am but he wandered off and I couldn't find him after that. She found him within a half mile of the hut.

    Exploring the Wild River Wilderness

That's absolutely one of my favorite areas to hike in the Whites. I try at least once a year to camp at the Wild River Campground and do a 20 mile loop over some of the Carter Range. I just love how remote and quiet that whole area feels. Thanks for posting!

    Grafton Loop Trail

Ed- the SD card was indeed salvageable. I too like reports with dog info. It's always nice to know that there's nothing too unfriendly for Sheep out there. This hike in particular would have been much more challenging if we had gone clockwise rather than counterclockwise. Going down the two...

    Grafton Loop Trail

It's been a slow period of hiking for me. Between minor injuries for both Sheep and myself and a crazy work schedule, I only got out hiking twice all winter and never covered more than 8 miles in any single trip. Having the three day weekend to myself, I decided to go all out and attempt a 3...

Carrigan, the Long Way Peak Series 2.0

Now that's my kind of hike! If you're looking for more nominees for this series may I recommend attacking the Carters from the Wild River campground?

It's time for a family tent...

I've never used the extra vestibule on my Hobitat. I generally use that tent when I'm camped for a few days and going out on dayhikes, so I have never had any need to set that up as I'm usually sleeping or off hiking. From what I can remember, it seemed pretty insignificant so I suspect it might...

It's time for a family tent...

I have the REI Hobitat and it's a fantastic tent. I use it for car camping and I imagine it would be quite bulky to carry. The sucker certainly doesn't pack down small. So I can't say I'd recommend this for anything not right out of the car. But, if you're looking for a roomy, easy to set up...
