Buy now or wait? (Snowshoes & crampons)

Given how many pairs of snowshoes were sold this winter, I would bet that craigslist will eventually be filled with barely used gear for very little money.

Any 2 Day Loop Hike Recommendations Western MA?

I have hiked a fair amount near Greylock and in the SW corner of the state. I think you have good options in both areas. In Mt. Washington, you could hike in to the camping area, set up camp and then hike to Bash Bish Falls and then back to camp for the first day. For the second day, you...

Not All Successful Search and Rescues end well

I would guess that they were still in shock from being lost while hiking, had impaired judgement, and should not have started driving home. (I would also guess that they were offered medical attention after their rescue, which they refused.) Such a sad story.

    Hiking Footwear "Issues"

I have had similar problems and tried to make an expensive pair of Scarpas work for a number of years. This year I bought a pair of Lowa Renegades. They have worked very well so far. They are light, required little or no break-in, and it is possible to adjust fit with the lacing system. I...

    Bondcliff, the long way- 05/10/2012-05/12/2012

My friend Jay and I were scheduled to have our biannual New England hike last weekend. He is an old friend from Peace Corps who lives in MN, and we have been meeting every other year for a hike for the past ten years. We had decided to hike in to the Franconia Brook tentsite Firday night, hike...
