I believe there is (or was) a club with that name that was connected to the ski trail of the same name. Maybe inferring that you did more or less the same by hiking in winter, just as those who skied said trail had to do to get to the top of it?

Certainly understandable why there would be concerns. After all, look at all the posts on these forums of what happens with hikers not being prepared for the conditions in the mountains, even when they have at least hiked other places before. Quite likely that many of those planning to go to...

Even when people read the forecasted conditions, those forecasts are not 100% accurate. We've had storms that turned out to be more snow than was forecasted, ones where forecasted snow instead became rain, and ones where we were on the "edge" of the storm and got little or nothing when the...

Not that the event itself is good, but rather that most people would prefer having death occur (if it has to) in such a way over getting some of the diseases that people get and spend months or years fading away slowly and sometimes painfully for both the person and others around them.

Maybe to avoid them being shared? Wouldn't be hard to do without some type of identifying info. on it (especially for two people with the same name, like a Sr. & Jr.).

Perhaps in such a situation, if she still wants to hike and he is OK letting her, simply don't request the assistance. If you are planning to pick her up at a certain point and she isn't there, you can attempt (if you are OK) to hike back to the start point for that section and look for her...

Looking at said Facebook page, there are two things that lead to thinking they would have at least non-alcoholic options available. One being that in the spring/fall, they offer a pizza buffet, with a price listed for children 10 and under (who obviously can't drink beer, and being a buffet...

The point being, there WAS a president with that name, where there were NOT presidents named Clay, Webster or Franklin. Thus, even if named for someone else, it still sounds like it belongs to a Presidential range!

Three of those make sense, but our 7th President might like a word with you on that last one... ;)

That is true. I know that there are a few spots that do have campsites that one can drive right to along the roadways, but do not know enough to know if there are any close to this particular trailhead. Hopefully someone else can provide more info on that, it may also be worth checking the ADK...

Do note this one can be small if the weather is drier, but if you manage to hike in and then have a downpour overnight, you will definitely notice the difference crossing it to leave in the morning! :)

Perhaps some of those locals should take advantage of the lack of parking and make some money for themselves by allowing people to park on their properties near trails for a fee. Works in other areas where there is more demand for parking than space available, or the private spots are more...
