    Baxter Post-Turkeyday

Oh thats awesome! I will have to keep that in mind. No... was just looking to get some late season (at the cusp of winter) photographs. Baxter is to get 5-8 inches on wed night and stay cold through the weekend. I won't be going anywhere near there considering overnight permits are not...

    Baxter Post-Turkeyday

Checked with them on Monday... although now they are calling for 3-5 inches wed night so that will make that option difficult. And I woke up this morning with an acute ear ache and left tonsil in pain, so God may be telling me something.

    Baxter Post-Turkeyday

I am headed to Baxter for some dayhikes, leaving on Friday the 28th. I will use a mountain bike to access Roaring brook TH. As of today there was no snow on the tote road, just some icy spots, and Roaring brook road was gated off 2.5 miles in. They are calling for about an inch of powder on...

    Backpacking Colorado Wilderness

Miehoff, Dont discount the Weminuche based on solitude alone: It is the larest wilderness area in colorado. It is also one of the farthest from Denver. Its not far the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Durango is on the edge of the Desert Southwest. This area's snow tends to clear a bit...

    Backpacking Colorado Wilderness

weminuche! I will second this. We did weminuche in 2008 and it was the most remote in CO. Simply amazing. Here was our itinerary. Day 1: take durango-silverton train to elk pass trailhead and hike to beaver ponds. Day 2: explore valley above with vestal, arrow, and the trinity peaks Day 3...

    What's for breakfast?... 2000 ft: A pseudo-winter, pseudo-presi traverse

This trip came together as a training hike for the Cascades and Rainier this summer, with a good friend. We could not have asked for a better trip! Friday 3/29: We left Pinkham notch on Old Jackson Road to Lowe's Bald Spot. Then we broke out the Madison Gulf Trail and part of the Osgood...

Northern Presis on Sat, Carters on Sunday, Wildcats on Monday, or something similar?

Pending tolerable winds/weather... The plan that got me movtivated is: Saturday (12/1/12) going for a Northern Presi traverse with the hopes of at least making the trees just beyond Madison (starting up boot spur, tuckerman, or huntington). Sunday descend, then climb towards carters. Monday...

Labor Day Weekend in the ADKs

Mouse in Car at Daks We too had a mouse in our car when we returned to it. We moved the food. The next day our hiking partner also had a mouse in his car... I drive around with traps now...Does this happen often in the daks?

    Longs Peak - how exposed?

Longs Peak Experience Longs peak has big air. Its a judgement call. I'd just suggest spending enough nights at altitude prior to make it a comfortable day. Some of the biggest exposure is on the highest parts of the mountain and you dont want to be light headed or worse for that. There is a...

    Isreal Ridge descent?

Good Descent We did this loop in the winter and to be honest, I thought Israel ridge was a pleasant descent (given what you are coming off of). I only remember the stream crossing at the end, being the most challenging, but you have to cross that anyway if you come in on the castle trail.

    Basin and Saddleback 12/30/11 (Adirondacks)

Basin/Saddleback Nice Trip Report! Glad you stuck out the verglass on saddleback cliffs well. Did you have the option midcliff to climb the steep corner/chimney or move right on to verglassed rock? How heavy were you packs, and did you climb with them on? Those are memorable peaks. Coming...

    Northville to Duckhole, Sewards, Upperworks

Great to hear. I think they have something like 54 total disc golf baskets at codurus (3, 18-hole courses). I have only played one. I too have family in Hanover. Its a good area.
