    Mt Lafayette Rescue on Wednesday

I love how the picture in the Daily Mail shows Franconia Ridge on a clear summer day! Kinda defeats the point of the article....I mean if a point was to make sure that hikers are prepared for bad weather. Yikes on losing his mittens!!! I wonder how those blew away. That would have freaked me...

Snow up in the north Country

Hi can anyone comment on the snow coverage on the Lincoln Woods XC ski trails on both sides of the Pemi? This is relatively "southern" in the Whites region--so I am curious whether Lincoln area also got a dumping....?

lincoln woods trail, snowpack post-Dec 29/30 storm?

Hi--can anyone comment on the snow depth in Lincoln Woods area now. Specifically, for XC skiing. I skiied in Waterville yesterday and they got plenty. Similar conditions on the ground/in the woods in Lincoln? Thanks! --Carla

water levels, north twin little river crossings

Did NH get enough rain yesterday (9/19) to make the river crossings difficult heading up to North Twin? I was in Crawford Notch last weekend and it was all so dry dry dry that streams were nothing. Any 411 on the North Twin area, post-rain would be helpful. Thank you! --Carla

Incredibly odd development in the Geraldine Largay case

Just read another article in the Globe today that said her family didn't like the way she was portrayed in the NYT article as "prone to anxiety"....so who knows what led to the disorientation...I guess we will learn more if her family shares some of the journal entries. Anyway....

Incredibly odd development in the Geraldine Largay case

I bet many of us have been in the same situation (I know I have) where you just get disoriented really quickly off the trail. I've had my little moments of panic, but luckily calmed myself down and steered myself back to the trail. The NYT article mentioned that she had anxiety attacks...who...

Thanks Tim--really hoping for just a few inches of new snow to freshen this up. I was in Waterville last weekend and it was quite decent on the north side. Tripoli and other trails on that side. But no new snow since then...ugh....only so much the ski areas can do with the same old snow, plus...

So what are your early winter "bonus" hikes ?

Una, I hear you! I still love to hike, but it's the thought of the drives now that deters me. The first time I did the 48 was many years ago and I happily zipped up weekend after weekend, doing most in daytrips. Second round was spread out over a longer time, and admittedly, the notion that I...
