Three big tourist spots really close to each other with Glen Ellis, Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, and Great Glen. Both PNVC and GG have nice souvenir shops for people to pick up some gifts. Pinkham has a nice tourist hike to Crystal Cascade and while it's not as nice or draws the crowds as Glen...
Myself and one of my hiking/running friends from Jackson have summited Washington over two hundred times, and I'm sure there are other locals who have hiked it twice that amount and so on and so on.
As for Eric Todd Sweet (mentioned above), I have bumped into him few times on the trails, not...
From a recent report on New England Trail Conditions about parking at Seven Dwarfs "Parked at SEVEN DWARFS MOTEL on Little River Road. Put $10 in envelope and places it in the small black metal mailbox (just to the left of the main office front door). We were the 2nd car there... empty lot. Then...
Four of the five have now been bypassed. But for years the first two were bypassed easily and were mentioned in the guide book for decades
22nd-28th WMG: The first two crossings are only 40 yd. apart and can be avoided by following a well-beaten path on the near bank
29th WMG: Here it follows a...
I'd say impatient. You're on mile 24 of your 40 mile training run, use this as a chance to catch your breath and relax for a minute or two until the people and dog cross that creek and get out of your way.
From his Strava run on the day
Bad Ending
"A couple and their dog were standing in this creek crossing. They didn’t move so instead of stopping and waiting myself I jumped up onto the boulder to the right to overtake them and dodge the dog. Jumped one boulder two boulders and then there...
Picked one up yesterday at PNVC! Thank you to you and Steve for putting together a wonderfully done, knowledgeable, and helpful trail descriptions in the new guidebook :)

You are correct, the Wilderness Trail crossed the river over a suspension bridge and then paralleled the river for 0.7 miles to the Bondcliff Trail junction. Suspension Bridge was removed a dozen years ago.
I have to disagree with there needs to be a reservation system for certain trailheads. We are talking about 30 days tops out of 365 that it is a zoo, Weekends between late June and Columbus Day Weekend. The rest of the time there is no problem getting a spot. Last Friday I stopped by Lincoln...
I'll comment on what I see near me. I live equidistant between Appalachia and Pinkham Notch. Yes, trailheads are overflowing on Saturday's at the usual spots here but Sunday's have been much quieter this year compared to the last two, and during the week all this is a non issue 90% of the time...
Hiked up Boott Spur today, no snow. Lawn Cutoff was snow free too. Lion Head snow fields above the Alpine Garden Trail junction are almost melted away. No need for any traction on these trails. Rhododendron lapponicum (tiny purple flowers) spotted on Boott Spur and Lion Head Trail.
Tucks still...
Hiked up and down Lion Head Trail the past two days. No ice on that trail, just soft packed snow on the lower part of Tuckerman Ravine Trail to the Junction of Lion Head and some snow on Lion Head below treeline, easily bare booted or done in junk spikes. Above treeline there is a big steep...
From Conway Daily Sun in August, "Dunkin Donuts has closed after shifting its workers to the North Conway restaurant. The Dunkin Donuts within Walmart in North Conway has also closed temporarily due to lack of staff."
You are correct, I am the trail adopter! There are a couple of places you have to pay attention or you can easily veer off trail. The one that initially was giving people the most issues was the highest water crossing if you were descending, the trail banks a sharp right over the brook and a...
I hit up the Fisherman's Path at least once a year and Black Pond whack is definitely more well defined and easier to follow. I do enjoy the Fisherman's Path though, there's a few spots in the middle where you have to connect the dots between the herd path, made worse by the 2017 October storm...
