Our 3 day trip started with a herd path ascent of Street. The trail is easy to find although the views aren't that great. The only iffy part was crossing the river (which required us to remove our boots as the water was too high to rock hop). It took us 2 hours moving slowly to summit from the...
I'm an experienced 38 year old male hiker looking to spend some quality time on the Long Trail in Northern VT. I've done this section a few years ago and can't wait to try it again. I expect to do about 15 miles per day. I'm not exactly sure where I'll come out but it will be close to Rte 2. :)...
Folks,
My trusty backpacking partner just bought a house and is unable to accompany this fall on a trip. I was hoping to go for 3-5 days around Labor day weekend. I live in Burlington VT and would love to go either in Vermont, Adirondacks or White Mtns. I'm fairly fit and typically average...
Using the primary hunter's path from Rte 73 that most people take to East Dix, we decided to blaze our own trail a bit north of the "gorge" section of trail. Shortly after crossing the brook by the very nice illegal campsite and hiking for about 1o minutes in between the two brooks, we turned...
Folks,
I've done most of the easier slide climbs in the 'Dacks (East Dix, Macomb) and one not-so-easy one (Nippletop). Does anyone have suggestions about other slide climbs especially in the Eastern area of the 'dacks since I'm day hiking from Burlington VT?
I've heard about the North side of...
Herd Path on Mansfield
So where exactly did the Bear Pond trail originate in 1966? Behind the visitor center in the height of land in the Notch? It's nothing but cliffs there!
Daniel
Folks,
From the Long Trail just North of the Mt. Mansfield summit, the LT intersects the Hell Brook Trail. There is an unmarked trail that continues due north past the small pond. Where does it go after the pond? It seems to have been an old trail as there are some decaying bog bridges. I would...
Folks,
I realize that most people will never go here, but that's what made this trail so nice. We did a 4 day hike and covered about 50 miles. We saw 2 poeple only. There was plenty of water although the stretch between the Falls and Balhead that was a bit thin. The shelter are in good shape...
4 Day Trip on Cohos Trail
Hi Folks,
I'm trying to rustle up some folks to join me in a 4 day backpacking trip for 9/5-9/8 on the very remote Cohos trail in NH.
I'm a 36 year old male. I'm married with two young kids (who won't be joining me).
Please let me know if you're interested! :)...
July 12 weekend works
Let me know if you pick this weekend! I would love to go especially if I could find someone to carpool with from Burlington VT.
Daniel Scheidt
The trail is in good shape and the mud is minimal. There are a few patches of snow about 3000' but nothing serious. No black flies either. I'm a volunteer trail maintainer just up to check on things and brush the trail out before the season really begins.....Thanks to Ben & Jerry's (my employer)...
Bearvault Response
All:
I received the following response from Bearvault to my break-in at Flowed Lands last fall.
"Back in August 2007 a single bear in the Marcy Dam area of the Adirondacks learned how to open BearVault BV350/3400 models. It does this by pushing in the bump with its incisor...
Hello Fellow Hikers,
I'm headed over to the Adirondacks from Burlington VT this weekend 9/21-23. I'm hoping to attempt Allen/Redfield/Marshall. Is anyone else heading that way?
Thanks!
Daniel :)
Hi Folks,
I'm looking for some info about the Grafton Loop trail that recently opened in western Maine on 7/1/07. If you've hiked this recently, I would appreciate some info.
1. Is there a ski patrol cabin at the top of Sunday River Whitecap, and is it open in the summer? Is there water...
Grafton Loop Trip 9/21-23 Western Maine
Hi Folks,
If I've done my on-line research correctly, it appears that the second half of the Grafton Loop trail is now open as of 7/1/07. I'm planning to do a 3 day 2 night overnight for the loop. It appears that the full loop is about 40 miles. As it's...
