The panic when the first notes of the tune-up start and you are still outside the gates is real.

I have a reason to be on that land that day so aligning best for killing several birds with one stone. I leave for the West Coast early the next morning so I need to take what I can get.

    David Breashears recently passed away

In the 90's we won tickets to the Museum of Science in Boston, where the Everest IMAX movie was being shown. I believe it was the first, or one of the first, IMAX theatres. There was a short film, that he was in the process of making when the '96 Everest tragedy struck. He abandoned his film...

    Another Unprepared Hiker Rescue

One could argue that people were less prepared then vs. now. I know I was. I was caught on top of Bondcliff in the pouring rain with nothing more than a pair of jeans, Timberland boots, a ratty backpack that contained a nylon (not waterproof) jacket, and apple, a granola bar, and a can of...

    Backpacking with a toddler

Haven't been by in years and assume it's overrun, but the Lincoln Woods area used to be good for introductory sites. Three Ponds Wilderness (Plymouth area) has some backcountry spots to set up and are easy to get to.

    Winter Trail Running and Negligence

Meaning, if someone is lost and worried over costs to be found, there is a theory they won't call. Yet, their loved one has called. The "Search" for them is what is most expensive, not the rescue part.

Of course, with no data to support it, I'd say 99% of inexperienced hikers complete their activity with no issues and nobody ever talks about it....

    Fatality on Mt. Guyot

I understand, but I don't make the rules, either. Unless it's outside the climbing season, it would be impossible to climb Everest via the South Col route truly solo today.
