    Baxter Park itinerary help

Thanks again to everyone for the help In planning. We had an amazing time!!! We summited Katahdin on a bluebird day via Cathedral for my NE115! What a GORGEOUS mountain! All went well except driving to the park from Canada (Ottawa) was an unexpected adventure. 8.5 hours turned into 13.5 hours...

    Baxter Park itinerary help

Thanks again, everyone. We’re on our way and have noted the suggestions. One more question: is Russell Pond swimmable? What about the other? Wondering if we should pack bathing suits.

    Baxter Park itinerary help

Thanks for the info. The sites are already booked, but I've chickened out of doing the loop. We could probably do it but I'd rather not risk being totally exhausted and not enjoying it. Instead we'll drive from our first campsite at Katahdin Stream to Roaring Brook TH and hike to Russell Pond...

    Baxter Park itinerary help

Thanks so much for all the great insight. This is so helpful! What do you mean by "Russell Pond and Chimney Pond have a unusual bear line design, bring a good bag for hanging food" I don't know what bear line design is. We're staying in one of the bunks at Chimney - are we allowed to keep our...

    near Osceola..

Thanks for the replies. nartreb, that is the trail/road I am talking about. Unless able to find somewhere along there, it's quite out of the way to get to, which is why I'm asking if anyone knows anything. Sounds like it could be good, could be overgrown and thick. Not sure if we could even park...

It looks like there is a trail called "logging road" west of the Greeley trail up Osceola. Anyone know if I'd have luck finding a campsite off that trail? thanks in advance

    Baxter Park itinerary help

Night one: Katahdin Stream lean-to Night two: Russell Pond lean-to Night three: Chimney Pond bunk Day four: back to Katahdin Stream car park reasonable? We're ADK 46ers, and have backpacked (with tent) the Pemigewasset. This time we don't need a tent so lighter packs. We've never been to Baxter.

    Grafton Loop question

Thanks Chris! I've hiked all the "trailless" peaks of the NE115, 95% without GPS and I've been a-ok. The reviewer I found is maybe just used to well-trod trails. I appreciate the report :) Hope to hike it soon.

where to get a map of Grafton loop

Thanks both for feedback. I stopped at that store in Errol and they didn't have it. I'll buy the updated AMC map. My current one is getting worn down anyway :)

    Grafton Loop question

I downloaded the alltrails GPS map but the total distance is much shorter than it should be... makes me not trust it.

    Grafton Loop question

Thanks for the feedback. I'd read the SectionHiker report from 2016, but in August 2018 someone wrote the following about it: "I hiked the western half of the loop and found the trail to be difficult to follow at times. I would suggest keeping a GPS handy, because there were several times when...

    Grafton Loop question

Anyone done the west side lately? I saw a review that it’s really hard to follow. Wondering if anyone else experienced this lately? I’m not 100% sure my AllTrails download map can be counted on Thanks for any info
