For about 20 years I did a nature column in the local papers in southeastern Massachusetts and have had some major nature articles published in the paper of record in Providence, RI (The Providence Journal). I have also been published in a scientific journal (Wilson Journal of Ornithology) pn Hermit Thrush. I also did an audio version of one of my nature essays for the Rhode Island National Public Radio station (http://ripr.org/post/i-believe-rhode-island-hayfields-and-fireflies). I graduated Brown University in 1983. I am related to James Thurber, but distantly.

I hope you like the retro external-frame Kelty pack I am wearing in my avatar. This picture was of me in about 1969 in the Grand Tetons (after climbing the Grand). I still have the Kelty and like use it along with bamboo ski polls (as hiking poles) for the full retro look. Oh the looks of horror I get....
