    Just drove up to the Northeast Kingdom of Vt. Traffic on I93 was normal.

    I have been in the Northeast Kingdom of Vt for the past few days. I think it is not that important where to watch the eclipse. Any spot with a good southwest view without obstructions should be fine. A hilltop, a beach, or a parking lot. More important is to have a plan to deal with the traffic...

    The State of Vermont recommends Crystal Lake State Park in Barton. They are supplying toilets.

    Winter - Enjoy what is left of it

    We hiked Blueberry Mountain in Glencliff yesterday. The snow was very thin below 2000 ft. I am not sure what will be left after this warm rain. The snow on the ledges was also thin and melting rapidly. Streams of water were flowing under the ice.

    Growing up in St Johnsbury, before cable we only received 2 stations, channel 3, WCAX broadcast from Mt Mansfield and channel 8,WMTW, broadcast from Mt Washington.

    Hiking two trails with a bad rep (that they may not deserve).

    I had forgotten about Pine Link from the hut to Watson Path, not a lot of fun. We took Edmunds Col Cutoff from Six Husbands up to Gulfside. It was more of an adventure trying to find the trail as it passed through scrub patches.

    We found the Cornice to be very tedious. Even though it is level, we were always going up or down. The only trail that is close to it was the Parapet trail around the Madison cone. I would rather go up or down a talus field as opposed to across it.

    I do not think any conclusion can be drawn just because someone is 83 years old. I do not think he should be charged for a rescue just because he is 83. I do not think it is irresponsible for someone to hike just because they are 83. As with most rescue reports there really are not enough...

    The site is now part of the Nature Conservancy Carter Preserve. The preserve has 1100 acres and miles of hiking trails.
